Shooter on the loose at New Jersey mall - CNN.com

It happened couple hours ago. It's not far from my home. GSP is #1 most profitable mall in America and one of the largest malls. I was there couple days ago. I counted at least 6 different police departments. I was surprised to see that Port Authority PD just got to the scene. I guess the entire county is now involved.... wouldn't be surprised to see if NYPD got involved

according to my friend who is listening to police scanner - Verizon has just pinged a cellphone they're tracing 4 minutes in the past in the area of Neimann Marcus and The Children's Store.

... FBI and State SWATs are on scene and they're clearing each store

...Wearing a white helmet, wearing armor, they believe his location is near Nordstroms. They're clearing stores now, working their way towards Nordstroms. People inside are texting asking where to come out, being instructed to come out the front door into the mall.

I hope they get the guy - you know the drill Jiro. Gun free zones do nothing to make people safe.

This stuff just seems to be more and more common day by day. Hopefully everyone comes out alright.

according to NJ.COM -

• 11:50: "The situation is no longer an active shooter situation," official tells northjersey.com.

• 11:50: Paramus mayor Rich LaBarbiera at press conference: "Everyone is safe. No one has been injured."

apparently - somebody ditched the helmet and walked out with the crowd.

not a time nor place for it. it's tiresome. this thread is about mall shooting... feel free to create your own thread about gun-free zones.

It is tiresome? really? You don't see the tiresome pattern of shootings in gun free zones?

when will it be the time or place? After the next massacre in another gun free zone? Or the one after that?

It was probably a professional and this was a dry run.

^ pure speculation

Police identify suspect in Paramus mall shooting | NJ.com
PARAMUS — Police have preliminarily identified a suspect in the Westfield Garden State Plaza mall shooting, The Star-Ledger has learned.

Two senior law enforcement officials identified the suspect as Richard Shoop. The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity shortly after midnight, said Shoop was 20 years old and lives in Teaneck.

The sources also said law enforcement agencies believed Shoop may still be in the vicinity of the mall this morning, and possibly still on the mall campus. Shoop, according to the sources, is employed at a restaurant in Teaneck.

N.J. mall shooting: Police raid house of possible suspect | NJ.com
TEANECK — A swarm of law-enforcement officers, including New Jersey State Police, raided a house in Teaneck shortly before 1 a.m. today, The Star-Ledger has learned.

Photographer Andrew Mills was on the scene and saw law-enforcement officials enter a house at 534 Emerson Ave. in Teaneck at about 12:50 this morning.

Police have identified Richard R. Shoop, 20, of Teaneck, as a possible suspect in the Paramus mall shooting, sources told The Star-Ledger.
The address matches that of Richard Shoop, who earlier this morning was identified by two senior law enforcement officials as the preliminary suspect in the Westfield Garden State Plaza mall shooting late Monday night.

A mix of officers in tactical uniforms and plainclothes — all with guns drawn — moved through the neighborhood and knocked on the door.

A man holding a screwdriver answered the door and the law-enforcement officers screamed: "Drop it! Drop it!"

The man fell to his knees outside the house and dropped the screwdriver. He said his wife and dog were still inside. The man's identity is not known, but he appeared to be older than the 20-year-old Richard Shoop.

The house is a white Dutch Colonial on a corner lot.

God, that would suck if it wasn't him. Imagine Police pounding on your door early AM in the wee hours of the morning. I'd have peed my pants. :ugh:

without a sign of free zone therdfore shooter will win the case at the court. Lawyer is smart enough to play roles. ITs better to HAVE a sign of free zone then the shooter will get the heavy consequences from the court. That is the whole point.

Signs are better to be visible and be aware when any criminials do something wrong will be a serious consequence according to the court purpose. Nothing else.

Huh? If someone shoots a gun at people it doesn't matter whether or not there was a sign. Shooting people, other than self defense, is illegal, sign or no sign. A shooter isn't going to be found not guilty just because there was no sign.

That doesn't make sense. A criminal doesn't need a sign that says, "No shooting at or assaulting others" to know that he's committing a crime. Besides, have you ever heard of the legal principle, "ignorance of the law is no excuse"?

No sign is no defense for a criminal.

If there is any legal liability protection at all from signage, it's for the mall owners, no one else.

I have seen some that federal building have signs " no guns or knife or any kind of weapons with lots of picture display" signs.

I dont know why but i figure out that it can relates with the courts. For example, you see the hot coffee " warning for hot coffee" on the cup after what happened the lady got spilled on her and sued mc donald. That's where I assume that is possible as to why to have signs to let everyone know that there are no weapons in the building. :dunno:

The signs don't say that there are no weapons in the building. They only say law-abiding people won't be bringing in weapons. They say nothing to stop the criminals.
