A course in Beginning American Sign Language will be taught at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, beginning Sept. 6.

The course is from 6:30-
8 p.m. and will provide an introduction to American Sign Language and the culture of the United States Deaf Community. Class participants will develop beginning receptive and expressive skills in American Sign Language, involving such areas as fingerspelling and basic questions, statements, and negations.

Instructor Alison Ramsay is a 2008 graduate of Kent State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Deaf Education degree. Currently, she is employed with Bryan County Schools, teaching fourth- and fifth-grade special education at Carver Elementary School.

The Beginning American Sign Language course is presented by Georgia Southern University’s Division of Continuing Education. The Division will be announcing additional fall courses later this week, all of which will be taught at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm Street in Savannah.
