Funds raised to build school for deaf children
Funds were raised for deaf children at a musical night arranged by the Family Educational Services Foundation (FESF) at Clifton’s Imperial Garden on Saturday.
Noted Qawwal Amjad Sabri along with his team performed at the event, enthralling the audience by singing Qawealis and Ghazals.
Sabri, who appeared to be very enthusiastic, said that he was very glad to come and perform for a good cause, i.e. the education and advancement of deaf children.
The musical night was part of a fund-raiser for new deaf reach school, Rashidabad.
FESF Director Mary Anita R Florijn said that the PESF was currently running five deaf reach schools in Pakistan. These schools and training centers have been set up in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Lahore.
Ths schools provide free education to over 700 deaf students. Now the FESF, in collaboration with the Rashid Memorial Welfare Organisation, has planned to establish a new school in Rashidabad (35km from Hyderabad, near Tando Allahyar) with a capacity for 500 deaf children.
Children from the surrounding villages would be attending the school and it would be their first time to go to school, Florijn said.
She pointed out that the construction work was under way, and school would be completed in March 2012.
In order to generate funds for the new school, the FESF had organised the special event that aimed at gathering around 800 corporate executives and families, so deaf children could be assisted in attaining their due education, she noted.
