Fundraiser supports Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf « Long Island Report

When the leaves begin to change colors, cars line up to come to the Mill Neck Manor Fall Harvest Apple Festival.

The festival helps raise money for children and adults who are deaf and have special needs.

“We usually get 30,000 to 40,000 people depending on the weather,” said Assistant Superintendant Francine Bogdanoff.

“It actually started with apple orchards on the other side; they needed somebody to collect the apples, so they just kind of opened the gates and said ‘Come on in’,” she said, reminiscing about the festival’s origins.

Volunteers help sell a variety of different types of apples, apple pies and candy apples.

Other festivities include pumpkin picking for little kids, shopping in tent stores and eating a variety of foods. You can even get your hearing screened in the mobile screening room.

This year, community members and volunteers came together and raised more than $100,000 for the Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, a new record.
