FUEL TV Continues to Rise

Action sports/lifestyle network FUEL TV celebrates its third anniversary next month in style. Just a few days ago, it was set to break the 20 million mark for subscribers, reaching 22 million, thanks to further launches on Charter that will be announced June 26, and on DirecTV.

In addition, on July 1, its third anniversary, the channel goes 24/7. That means it will need more programs. Wasting little time, it will unveil a series of new shows July 2 for its Stacked Sunday block, including Pull, the first TV series dedicated to wakeboarding, and American Misfits, a skateboarding-based sketch comedy series that should appeal to passive participants--"those who use a skateboard as transportation rather than to do tricks," says CJ Olivares, assistant GM and SVP. FUEL TV may also add more animation and music-based content to attract this group and those who like skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding, but haven't participated, he adds. The 12-24 male-targeted network is not yet Nielsen rated.

Up ahead, FUEL TV will be trying to gain carriage with Comcast and EchoStar and continuing to explore off-TV platforms, including "a more specific broadband offering," Olivares says. Then there's the overseas business. FUEL TV's already 24/7 in Australia, with blocks in Latin America and the U.K. It's looking to be "significantly larger" in Europe and Asia, he says.

Now, Comcast don't have Fuel TV right now but it would get one soon, probably in end of 2006.
