Former MSD wrestler pleads guilty to assault; judge calls attack 'degrading' and 'disgusting' - The Frederick News-Post Online

A former wrestler at the Maryland School for the Deaf pleaded guilty Wednesday in Frederick County District Court to second-degree assault in an attack last year of a fellow student that Judge W. Milnor Roberts called "degrading” and “disgusting."

Tyler Daniel Dilks, 20, of Whiteford, Md., admitted pulling down the pants of a 16-year-old and penetrating him with a Mountain Dew bottle Oct. 28, according to court documents.

Roberts said he wasn’t swayed by defense attorney Timothy Ryan Streett's explanation that his client was guilty of roughhousing and horseplay.

The judge remarked that “it was not a childish prank,” Assistant State’s Attorney Colleen K. Swanson said after the hearing.

Except for the assault at the school, Dilks has no prior criminal offenses, Swanson said.

By accepting a plea agreement, Dilks will not stand trial. While Roberts suspended a three-year prison sentence, a $1,000 fine and court costs of $57.50, Dilks was still ordered to complete 250 hours of community service and was placed on two years of supervised probation. Roberts also ordered him to undergo a psychological and psychosexual evaluation and to receive treatment as directed.

Dilks was the lone adult in a group of four students who held down the victim on a bed in a school dormitory, Swanson said. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 220 pounds, Dilks was much larger than the teen who was victimized, Swanson said.

Roberts also prohibited Dilks from drinking alcohol and ordered him to take prescription drugs as directed. He is to have no contact with the victim and is not allowed to return to the Maryland School for the Deaf.

In court Wednesday, Dilks said through an interpreter that he was not expelled from the school and accepted his diploma early.
