Foreign coins

What do you do with foreign coins? I always end up with Canadian coins. You can't spend them here*, but they're money, so it feels weird to just throw them away. Maybe if I knew someone going to Canada, I'd give them to them, but I don't. Maybe a cool thing to give to a young person, but there are no young people in my life, an arrangement I've carefully orchestrated. Also, it's never enough to bother with, like finding out if there's somewhere to get them converted to U.S. money.

I am trying to clean up my living space, and a handful of coins sounds trivial, but there are a million things around here like that, and cumulatively they're crowding me:run:

*Well, obviously, some people do, otherwise I wouldn't end up with them. I don't want to try to sneak them in with a purchase somewhere though - I don't have the temperament for that.
 
It's usually not worth it for a few coins, but there are currency exchanges in all major cities(I believe). Unless it is right down the street, I wouldn't waste the gas on it.

P.S. Most places don't make a big deal of it.
 
The only way to not save your Canadian fund is to go to the bank and they will give you some American money only it will be lower than the Canada cost. They will probably send them up to Canada banks.

Right now, in Canada, we are no longer using the Canadian pennies anymore. If you have a lot or some of the Canadian pennies, then you can go to the bank (any bank) and they will take care of your pennies.

If you are planning on going up to Canada for a visit, you might need those Canadian fund which might be handy. So save them for the future. :)

I just keep them for a collection. I sort of have a coin/money type of collection going. European coins, canadian, some asian (don't know what part of Asia the coins are from), some Euro bills. Also collect random USA coins (state quarters, some of the presidential dollar coins, etc.).
 
I have some ancient Greek and Roman coins. It really sucks because I can't even use them at a vending machine to get a soda :(
