Family of suicide victim says Notre Dame betrayed them

Oh so it's a big plus that he got some.....by force. Right?

I can't believe you even asked that question....like it's no big deal that he raped someone, right? It's like she asked for it, right?

Yiz

Ofc, this dude should be punished if he raped that girl, but, the SCHOOL isn't the one who should mete out the punishment. It needs to be handled by the law. This family needs to file charges against the alleged perp or file a lawsuit against him if they feel he violated her/their rights. The school should NOT be under fire for this.

Trial is a long way off from the actual occurrance of the event in the majority of cases. One of the goals of rape counseling is to prepare the victim for what will be faced in the courtroom. I suppose a request for a female judge could be made, but probably not honored. However, the victim can have an advocate with her every step of the way.

That's what I thought. Thanks, Jillio.

They can send out female officers and have her evaluated by a female health professional.

True. But, I don't think the girl or her family filed charges in this case. Yiz seems to think the school should be held responsible for this girl's death because the alleged perpetrator wasn't removed from the school. Well, you can't just remove someone from school merely on an accusation alone. Prove the case in court, and, problem solved. The scum goes to jail.

Go back and read your article. See the part that says, "no evidence of penetration"? No one "got some".

There you go. Procedure has to be followed. If the girl was that frightened of him, she had the ability to get a protection order against him. She did not.

Sounds to me as if this girl had some underlying problems that everyone is trying to ignore.

That wasn't the question. Nor am I trying rile up some passions by deflecting questions either.

Why did you post this article and then say the player should sit out the game?

Hey, yiz. You are awfully quick to assume this guy is guilty. Do you know how many false rape allegations are filed every year? And the effect of that is, when a real rape occurs, it is looked at with skepticism.

In this country there is the premise of innocent until proven guilty. This student has not been proven guilty of anything. Get off your soapbox. You are doing actual rape victims more harm than good with your train of thought.

If you were a part if the ND staff would tell the coach to bench that player or make it public that player x is being left out of the game? Surely this decision would affect the safety of the player since there's people hat would like to compromise the players safety in light of the allegations of rape.

Exactly. And in that case, the school would be responsible for endangering a student's safety.

My take is that the parent's are trying to advance some sort of vendetta against the school.

If an investigation was undertaken and no evidence was found to support charges, then, that's tragic. It's also too bad.

It really does suck for this family and I feel for them, but instead of advancing a lawsuit against the school, how about getting counseling for their grief, and to help them work out why THEY didn't support their daughter more effectively? She obviously needed counseling. For the record, I believe something happened here. People don't commit suicide out of the blue. Either the girl had pre-existing emotional problems that the parents' didn't know about, OR, she was sexually assaulted, but nobody got this poor girl the help she needed. Either way, it's still not on the school. It was on this girl and her parents to see to it that she got the help she needed.

If you want point a finger, point some of it at the players friend as this induced fear an this can have a powerful effect on her. What is surprising to me is that no charges were filed AND the family is moving on.

Well, not to undertake any kind of dx on this amount of limited info, but what I am seeing is a girl that had a tendency to blame others and a family with that same pattern. I am sorry for their loss, but no one is responsible for this girl committing suicide.

Kind of makes you say, :hmm:, doesn't it?
