Police: Former Worker Kills Self Inside BGE Office
Supervisor Warned Employees To Flee

POSTED: 5:46 pm EDT July 7, 2005
UPDATED: 11:38 pm EDT July 7, 2005

LINTHICUM, Md. -- Police are investigating a shooting early Thursday evening at a Baltimore Gas and Electric office.

SkyTeam 11 reported over the office in the 7300 block of Parkway South Drive in Linthicum, where police have reported that one shooting suspect is dead.

Two medic units responded to the scene in addition to dozens of Anne Arundel County police units.

WBAL-TV 11 News reporter Darrielle Snipes reported later in the evening that BGE representatives identified the shooter as a 48-year-old man who was recently terminated.

BGE spokeswoman Linda Foy told 11 News the man had been fired Thursday from his position as an assistant designer for new projects after 28 years with the company.

According to police, the man, whose identity was not immediately released, arrived at the Anne Arundel County office, brandishing a gun.

Snipes reported a supervisor inside the building saw the man arrive and warned employees to flee the building.

Police said the man started firing his weapon before he entered the building.

"He used the weapon to gain entry; he apparently fired shots into the window," Sgt. Shawn Urbas said.

Police said the man fired shots inside the building, but it was unclear as to whether anyone was injured. Police said the man then shot and killed himself.

BGE plans to make grief counselors available to employees Friday.

Yeah imagine working for the company for 28 years, and then
you got fired... and sheesh, I don't know why I wanna work
for anybody.
:ugh2:

Just because he got fired, he didn't have to take a gun and start shooting people or threatening them....He could have done something wrong in order to get himself fired....:dunno:

why government allowed people to own guns?
Some gun owners will go crazy, and use the guns and stuff...

Police Officers Kill Man, Baby Girl in Standoff
Man Opened Fire on Police While Holding Baby
By ANDREW DALTON, AP

LOS ANGELES (July 11) - Police officers shot and killed a man Sunday night when he emerged from his home carrying a young girl following an hours-long standoff and opened fire, wounding one officer, authorities said. The girl was also killed in the gunfire.

The man killed was identified as Jose Raul Lemos, and the girl, about 17 months old, was related to him, police said. The officer, who was not immediately identified, was shot in the shoulder and was expected to survive.

There were three exchanges of gunfire between police and Lemos, who was either age 34 or 35, Assistant Police Chief Jim McDonnell told reporters. In the final exchange, at around 6:20 p.m., Lemos held the girl as he shot.

''We did everything we could to hold our fire,'' McDonnell said. ''We showed a tremendous amount of restraint, but unfortunately the suspect's actions dictated this. ... It's a true tragedy.''

The standoff began at around 3:50 p.m. when officers responded to an area in South Los Angeles west of Watts after residents reported a man behaving erratically and aggressively. Lemos fired at the officers and ran inside a fenced area that included his apartment and his car wash and detailing business. He had a 9 mm handgun and a shotgun and was intoxicated on drugs and alcohol, police said.

Police called in a SWAT team and tried to speak with the man; when they at one point attempted to help a neighbor escape the area, he fired at them and they fired back, McDonnell said.

Officers were struggling with the thought that they killed an infant, he said.

''The officers are taking it very hard,'' McDonnell said. ''Anytime you have a baby killed, it takes its toll.''

First part, I agreed with you. Guns don't solve problem. It just messed up even farther! Shooting benefits NOBODY! I have had fun with guns, but never thought of taking one's life. The second part, I am curious to why he got fired. Sometimes company who is struggling tend to play blaming games and that guy may be wrong person in wrong place and time. It already happened to me, and I am glad I got fired. I got fired because my ex company is trying to figure out what cause them to lose profit. It really have nothing to do with me. I already knew their problems, and they deny all the way. I even asked them to help straight out, and they never move their finger to help out. Funny, after got fired, I found better job than this shitty one! Pay is almost same BUT much much fatter benefit package, and much coolier people. I was even allowed to fool around once a while. That is allowed if I met the production expectation.

From my experice (I was fired twice in my lifetime) and that there is actualy life after being fired!!! What I mean is that when you get fired, usually better job is waiting for you!

I forgot to add this, in most cases it is better to get fired than to quit! When I was in several interview, that questions came up and I hate this. But with completely honest I explained to them that I made effort to solve the problems, and the this supervisor was unwilling to work out and solve the problem, after the fact there was re-structuring going on. I even said it is internal quality issues. I got some offers afterwards already! On other hand, if I quit, I would look bad because I didn't show my effort to improve the quality issues. Other question was also asked, how do I feel about this company. My answer were much in gray area. I just say that this company is NOT bad company, they are just struggling to get profit back on track.
So, if your job seeker, the serect is not to show "Bad dog teeth" attitude toward to ANYONE, any corporation, any politicans or anyone! It would only scare them away and make them think you might bite them in future. So, honesty and stay neutral is best.

Don't blame guns.

Plenty of people in the U.S. own guns and would never dream of shooting others.

Exactly! Guns don't kill people. It is the bullet. it is the people who got no head and think shooting is only way to solve problem. Lifetime in jail isn't worth the consequences.

yeah, but some people get all upset, and don't think before their
action. And they need anger management and learn how to cool down...

it isn't worth your life, since that man worked there for 28 years, maybe
he did need to go find new job somewhere else...
I don't know if it messed up his retirement or whatever...

Would the man get retirement check or whatever even though he fired from that job?

Guns dont move by itself. Guns are moved by people with many different motives.

Some people do snap after losing a job. It could have been a last straw for this man. It is a combination of factors leading up to that day. Perhaps he was having financial stress, marriage problems, or whatever..we dont know.

the officers actually shot the baby too???????? that doesn't seem right at all, seems like they would find a way around to avoid hurting the baby. wow.. sad news..

as for the man that shot himself.. i'm sure it was out of his anger since he worked there for 28 years and they fired him. its not right to go barge in and shooting people..

its not about guns!! the world has gone crazy with many different things.

I agree with you about getting fired better then quitting. I too got fired from my previous job. Guess what?? I found another job within 3 1/2 months later and it was much better then my old job. I love my job and I am staying there since I get summer vacation and holday off. :D

Hey Pomeranian and Diehardbiker, I am very strongest agree with you!!!!!!!
I would like to share the stories about my job .....
when i started work at my assembley factory , I am press operator machine and the one of press operator has about 20 to 30 buttons and lots of remember of which one put a button on machine for making a parts, lots of people cant work this top of dangerous machine so the boss noticed that i can work the press operator and real fast and real beat them.... I am very highest score counting on the press operator ... anyway, i turned off the press operator machine, I walked upper stair and went to the bathroom and i was washed my both hands and i opened the door and guess what ? i cant beleive that nobody work on the liness and all of the machine were stopped and i got puzzled why noone are not working on machines or on the lines.... i was thinking myself and oh shit every tuesday it is meetings and so i decided walked to meeting room in another side room and there are nooooo peoples in roooms and i was second puzzled and what the fuck going on ??? so i saw one of lady running the hallway so i called her name and asked her what is going on ??? the lady said it is fire alarms
i was sooooooooooo pissssss offfffffffff and i was losing my mind and i went to back the yard and opened the doorrrrr and saw wholle 350 peoples and owner and managers and kitchens and co workerss peoples saw me out of the building and i yelllledddd at whole the 350 peoples and i said "fuckkkkkkk youuuu and I am deaf and can t hear the fire alarm and noone didnt contact me at bathrooom " the owner and kitchen manager and my boss walked and asked me what is going on? i said " fuck you you know what i am talking about deafness? i can t hear the alarms and noone didnt contact me in bathroom and i will be dead anyway .... i started so angryyyyyy and i walked away from three of managers and owner and i drove away from the building and i was parked lots in front of lake and cried for one hours and cant beleive that what the fuck peoples dont care about me because i am deaf and cant hear the alarms... so i wiped my both of my eyes and went to home .... my mom got puzzled with me because i always work overtime 50 to 60 hours so i refused to tell my mom what happened because i dont feel moody.... so i woke up for next day and i was eating a cereal and my mom heard about this and I told my mom that will she back off with me and lets me care of it ? my mom accepted me ... so i went to back to work and everyone was stared at me and wont talk to me .... I was stuck up with everyone and even my boss so my boss wanted me talk to him in private room and my boss said I am sorry about that and i told him i dont mind my boss can write up the notes ( if you get write up least three times and fired you) and he said nothing one words so he said please go to another rooms and i opened the door and noone sstilll not there on the line or machine start and i said oh jeeezzzz another fire alarm and my boss said no there are no fire alarm and go to the meeting room please and i said okay and i walked and opened the door and the owner and kitchen manager gave me four rosse flowers and clap clap and the union uaw passed and bought 30 fire alarm with flash each rooms and bathroom and caterfica aand outside tooo and the boss spoke front of 350 peoples that I am the best worker and top of the score and no write up the note ... i was cried again and everyone huggies me and forgot about the problems.... i started go back to work and work on my favorite the press operator machine and i already got over 30 different kind of the press operator machine so far and now i worked both of press operator and liftfork and inspectors ! I thought i should fired for walk out on the building with a horrible bad words......

That's called....gone postal, meaning a worker going nuts at a workplace or similar. That have happened a few times at work place after the years, not that often though.

well the boss should have decrease the salary, everytimes the workers,

1. be absent
2. not working hard enough
3. be tardy
4. some other reason

Instead of firing workers....

And the workers worked hard and show up on time....
then they get bonus extra dollar adding to their salary...

That way everyone would fair. ;)

Good idea?
