Has anyone seen this movie? I watched it for the first time in a long time, last night, and even throughout age, it retains its genius. It's somewhat hard to follow, but its absolutely brilliant. Jim Carrey stars as an emotionally withdrawn man, who wishes to have memories of his impulsive ex-girlfriend (Kate Winslet) erased after he finds out his ex-girlfriend did the same. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and go see it now.

Saw the movie three times before I had to do an essay about it last semester. When I did the essay, I pushed the movie into a new light with my analysis of their scenes, dialogues, and the philsophy behind the movie.
I already love it first time but the essay really pushed me to appreciate the movie more. It always makes me crying because I feel that is so me. You cannot erase what went wrong in your life because it will help you out-- to avoid repeating the mistake or to improve yourself from the mistake. Life's a life, and you gotta move on.

And it is even better to have Katie Winslet in it-- she's the best. :fruit:

There's several different ways you could interpret the film, along with yours. I don't know why I didn't realize the genius of it before. It's a great stretch to see Jim Carrey NOT playing an Ace Venture-like character, but show a deeper side. Also, Clementine is my dream girl; impulsive and free-thinking.

That movie was....VERY odd....

If you enjoy Eternal Sunshine, you will enjoy Donnie Darko...
I like "very... ODD" movies as Lucia put those type of movies. ;-)
I enjoy films that are not mainstreamed (think: Spiderman, Family Stone, etc) such as Memento, Donnie, and Eternal Sunshine. I heard about "A Scanner Darkly" and it looks interesting but I am worried that because the movie has a lot of big-name stars, it might be not all that great...(shrug) what do you think, Guido?

Ditto on "Donnie Darko." I absolutely love that movie, in addition to "Eternal Sunshine..." Have you seen "Waking Life"?

Donnie Darko is another cult movie I'm in love with. It takes a couple of times to watch it to understand the concept. I'll be honest. I still don't fully understand the movie, but I still love it. Like you've said before, GD, its dark and chaotic. I wouldn't expect most people that watch it to understand it.

As for A Scanner Darkly, I've a couple of trailers here and there for it, but I don't know much about it. I might check it out, but it looks like it might be a little above my head.

As for mainstreamed movies, I agree. For the most part I hate mainstream movies (with couple of exceptions). Anything with Jack Black or Will Farrell, I usually hate. I LOVE superhero movies, though, and the past few years have been great for those. I'm a sucker for them (SuperMan, SpiderMan, BatMan, X-Men, etc)

Have you ever seen American History X or Boondock Saints?

Ayala>>To be frank, I hated "Waking Life" the first time I saw it. :-/ Never really wanted to bring myself to watch it again. I did like how it end-- that the guy just finally floated away as he feared about being stuck in a dream.

Guido>> Saw "American History X"-- INTERESTING movie, and it got my favorite goth girl, Fairuza Balk ;-) As for "Boondock Saints", nopie.

Boondock Saints is a little violent, but I love the whole concept of the movie. If you ever feel the need to watching something semi-gory, rent it.

What about Rushmore?
