England women visit Schools for Deaf - England Women and International - Women's - News - ECB

Players from the England women’s team took time out from their tour of Sri Lanka to visit children with hearing impairments at the Schools for the Deaf in Ratmalana, Colombo.

They joined the girls and boys for a game of cricket in a visit coordinated by Hope for Children, a British-based charity helping disadvantaged children and those with disabilities in Sri Lanka. The charity’s patron is England team director Andy Flower.

The tourists also coached some of the younger children and were particularly supportive of the girls who joined in the mixed game. In return, the children taught the players some sign language.

One of the visitors, Danielle Wyatt, said: “It was great to see how much the boys and girls at the School for the Deaf in Ratmalana enjoy cricket. It's fantastic that they all have the opportunity to participate despite any impairments they may have.

“I was really impressed with how the girls hit the ball and communicated with each other through sign language; it makes me realise how lucky we all are.”
