Employers urged to give deaf workers a go - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

The Deafness Forum of Australia says many hearing-impaired people who are capable of working are struggling to find employment.

The problem will be discussed at the National Deafness Sector summit in Canberra this weekend.

Organiser Nicole Lawder says employers are ignoring a valuable resource.

"People with hearing loss are much more likely to be unemployed and underemployed than the general population, and there's a number of reasons behind that, but in a time of skills shortages, it's important to get as many people as possible into the workforce," she said.
