Elks Hoop Shoot set for Sunday » Local News » SalemNews.com, Salem, MA
The Beverly-Salem Elks Club will host its annual free-throw shooting contest on Sunday, Jan. 16, at the Beverly School for the Deaf on Echo Avenue.
The competition is part of the national Elks Hoop Shoot and is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 13. There is no charge to participate.
Registration is at 9 a.m. for 12- and 13-year-olds, 11 a.m. for 8- and 9-year-olds, and 1 p.m. for 10- and 11-year-olds. Ages are determined by the child's age on April 1, 2011.
Boys and girls will compete separately by age group. All participants will receive T-shirts. Jackets will be awarded to the first-place finishers in each category, and trophies will be presented to the top three in each category.
Winners will advance to the eastern Massachusetts competition on Jan. 22 at Woburn High School. The national finals are held in Springfield, with the national winners' names inscribed in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
