Double Honour For Fundraiser (from Watford Observer)

A Bricket Wood woman has been honoured twice in the space of a fortnight for her dedication to a deaf charity.

Liz Arendt MBE has raised an impressive £250,000 since forming the Hertfordshire branch of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People nine years ago.

Liz, her committee and volunteers recently received praise from Richard Johns, on behalf of HRH the Princess Royal patron of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, congratulating all in the Hertfordshire Branch for their tireless fundraising efforts.

Secondly, Esther Rantzen, a supporter of Hearing Dogs as her late husband, Desmond Wilcox was profoundly deaf also honoured the Hertfordshire branch.

She presented representatives Liz, Janet Cummings and Bill Manning with a silver salver inscribed to the "Hertfordshire Branch in recognition of the outstanding contribution". The presentation took place at Hearing Dogs' Head Quarters in Saunderton, Bucks.

It costs £2,500 to train a 'hearing dog' and all the money raised goes towards training dogs for new recipients. Hearing dogs make an amazing difference to the quality of deaf people's lives, but sadly not everyone with the disability are fortunate enough to have them.
