Don't know how can I say to my daughter??? (Hard described)**my vent**

My heart goes out to you, BullyMom. I know how it feels.

When I told my 9 and 8 year old daughters last spring that I was getting a CI, they didn't have any clue about what it was really about. So I took her to my audiologist and he explained everything to them.

I took them to meet other CI users. I also took them to more Deaf events and they picked up ASL much more. I took them to a week long deaf conference in July and they had so much fun.

They realize that my CI did not cure me but that my voice improved. They know I still cannot understand everything.

You could have her meet CI users and Deaf signers so she can get better understanding. She may think a CI means a FULL CURE.

reading your post bullym0m, ur daughter touch my heart, I know it's hard for kids that age to completely understand what's going on... but like everyone here explain their opinions... you could go by that and my additional option is that if I were in ur shoe, I'd try to find a way to explain my daughter that god create me for who I am. Also I'd use my hand to touch her throat to hear/feel her singing and tell her how beautiful it is?

Yes, a lot of hearing people think that a CI is a cure and works well for everyone. Explain to her, that results are VERY accross the board when it comes to it (just like with hearing aids) and that even if you could hear a little more then with aids, it wouldn't nessarily be the way hearing people think of as hearing. Hey...I have a conductive loss (volumne just needs to be turned up) and I don't hear like a hearing person.
