And actually... Diamonds, while being hoarded by debeers, are severely overvalued.

Debeers has 98% of the diamonds in their vaults. Canada has much more diamonds than Africa. Most of it are industrial grade though.

My bet: getting that planet... diamonds wouldn't be worth more than the landscaping dirt you buy.

Diamonds can now be made synthetically. Even the experts cannot tell the difference between a synthetic one and a real one. I won't be surprised if the value drops dramatically.
