Be it Green Skull or Black Death

what do these taste like? I can actually get an 89.9% version quite easily but I want to know whether its smooth, rough, or like anise, or like black sambuca or what?
can anyone share?

Well I know the versions here in the United States aren't like what most countries can get their hands on. :twisted: I know drinking the stuff they have here, it tasted exactly like black licorice... I HATE black licorice so I haven't touched it since that one night. It is definitely far FAR away from being smooth... :shock:
 
ohhh but % worth it?? lol what about Everclear

I know here in the US, most Absinthe is around 50 - 70%. There are different grades of course that you can get. If it tastes like OVERWHELMING black licorice, you've bought a cheaper blend. Real Absinthe should have a hint of that taste but be pretty mellow. I know you have to dilute it with water ( usually 3 to 5 parts ) or it's just unbearable! ( Wish I'd have known that prior to trying it that night ) It's close to Anise from what I understand, but I don't know that for a fact. All I know is I got drunk REALLY really fast and it took everything in me not to puke. ( I didn't go go me! )

As far as price, I know the 70% we bought that night of hell cost me around $50 bucks for 8 friggin ounces. This was years ago, so I'm not sure where the prices are sitting now. Also, we bought it from a little liquor store, so I'm sure their prices were much higher. :dunno2: I just know I never want to put that stuff in my mouth again! ( Again, because I loathe black licorice ) If you like black licorice, you'll probably love it. :laugh2:
 
I do not enjoy black sambuca as it tastes like licorice as well. :barf: The only licorice I like is the pull and peel by twizlers or the rainbow licorice... ( Neither of which taste like traditional licorice and taste more like fruit snacks instead :D )

good description yea i think id like it...lol BUT id be Bloody careful, it can be lethal...say 2 shots MAX, and just carry on normal drinking with a sober freind to hide the black death for good reason...I have a 5 L bottle of 4.5/5 star Italian Red (sauvigonese) to give thanks to 10 people who helped me to do up my back yard as a special thanks..$200 (which is cheap) got it even cheaper at $120...but still good as only got it last xmas, as it was as 2011...it should be right on it...not to wait much longer...and serve it!! 5 Litres, that's an Imperial bottle!!

I have had both Absinthe and Absentia (a variety made on Mallorca) and it tastes very strongly of licorice.

I quite enjoy it, and don't bother with the stupidity someone showed me in university of soaking a sugar cube and setting fire to it and then stirring the caramel into the shot and drinking it. I just poured in some water with some sugar and drank it, it was fine.
 
I don't think what they're selling is really authentic absinthe. It's been awhile, but I don't think it's alcohol, it's more a drug, you don't really get drunk you get high. I could be wrong though.

I like jäger mixed with redbull, but I have to drink it early or Ill be WIDE awake until 3 am. I'm wondering if that's what this new absinthe is more like, jäger. Jäger is very licoricy, and I think it gives you more of a body buzz than a head buzz. It's funny though, I hate anise too, jäger by itself is nasty. Redbull by itself is nasty, but put the two together and.....oh my.....two negatives make a positive and it's magically delicious !!!

I found that too though! :laugh2: I hate red bull, and I hate Jager.... but together I wouldn't say they're DELICIOUS, but they're okay. :P
 
I'm trying to remember what cereal I'm referencing.....lucky charms? :) yes I'm exaggerating :laugh2: another reference I use from Death Trap that's one tasty beverage :D

I like sweet tea. Sometimes half lemonade, half sweet tea. It doesn't taste like anus (anise??) either.

Not sure why anyone has to drink anything to alter their state of mind. I like my state of mind .... :hmm:

anise is pronounced like Ah-neeed-ese or a need but stretched out with a slight roll out with a 'ese' like end of chinese...
 
The thing with Absinthe is it does not give hallucinations like people had depicted back in the day. What they were actually experiencing was alcohol poisoning because of the high straight content of alcohol in absinthe. The amount of the chemical that would cause an altered state of mind is so incredibly low in even original absinthe that it is nowhere near enough to cause hallucinations. The more ya know! :D

I know Mountain Dew was originally advertised to parody moonshine .. and if I have drank enough of that, I can literally bounce off walls.

The stuff they have in the States is not like it is in other countries...it's disgusting and my friends and I didn't even feel anything (aside from the alcohol)...it's probably the grossest drink I've ever had...by the end of the night, I had given up on the Absinthe and stuck to just drinking water and eating sugar cubes...
 
lucky for me , im not in the states.and have access to a 89.9% version as well. :)
