Do Your Cat(s) Control You?

I read the article yesterday, and it wasn't surprising. I enjoyed reading the comments and cat quotes, and agreed with them that it's already well known for ages cats are manipulative. I am not sure manipulative is the word to describe the actions of the cats. And the study is completely unnecessary.

Ever heard of the expression? "Dogs have owners. Cats have staff."

We have a cat, and she loves attention. if one of us uses a computer, she'd sit on the desk to distract one of us, and she thinks she's all that." Pet Me, me. me. That's hot." I swear some cats act like Paris Hilton. She would do anything to make noises, and wave her tail to whip us to wake us up.

"Dogs believe they are human. Cats believe they are God."

I've had several cats (now deceased)....and I also have Cocktiels (birds)....the cage is huge and high off the floor. With all my cats in the past, it didn't take much training with a water bottle, shooting them whenever they came too close to the cage. In given time, they actually ignored my birds.

Now, we acquired a tuxedo kitten...and I'm doing the same thing to train him not to bother the bird cage.....HAHA!...It's been about 2 months and a lot of refilling the water bottle, and he is still sneaky as ever! Whenever we go anywhere, we lock him in the bedroom and my boys say "he's crying"....but I can't trust him to let him roam free around the house due to the birds.

He bosses my dog around, slaps her a lot....and sometimes when I'm sitting on the floor, he actually jumps on my back with his claws! A thump on his nose usually gets him to stop that for awhile...but he's right back at it later on.

He sleeps with me and my dog. And is pretty well-behaved at night time. He's like a 2 yr. old....and my patience is wearing thin!...I'm gonna give it another month, with a watchful eye on the Cocktiels. He's not GOD! But acts like it....BTW, my dog loves that kitten to death! So do my boys, and of course, he has a soft place in my heart....maybe that's why his behavior is so bad.

I remember working on my desktop a while ago. My cat would purr and whip his tail around in front of the screen to get my attention lol. Since I use my laptop he doesn't vy for my attention much anymore.

Mosey, Ashy [the sweet angel] and Hannah all have complete control over me. Hubby says "no no no!" but between you and me, Hannah has him wrapped all over her paw.

My cat looks a lot like Ashy. His name is Smokey. Maybe they could hook up or something? j/k

do most cats of you tap you with their paws? my older two cats do that to me allll the time. it seems to me that they know i cant hear them. They had to find a way to get my attention by feeding them, petting them, or any other reasons to attetion cats. I have third cat who haven't paw on my shoulder yet and he's still baby.

Mosey will tap hard and I mean hard to startle both of us out of our sleep just to get us to move so he can sleep in his spot. If one of us sleeps in his spot, be prepared for him to tap you hard! He usually does it on the face or the head and we know it's because we slept on his "spot" so we move a bit for him to curl up and sleep.

Ashy, our beloved angel, would nudge me on my left side as she knew it was my blind spot. Hannah has the incredible knack of walking on my left and it's as if she's trying to guide me. She'll brush up on my left side only to let me know she's besides me walking with me.

I wasn't aware of this until I started walking to the bathroom at night and noticed her doing this.

Heh heh heh, I just noticed Mosey brushing my white cane!!==gh\ {that was Hannah walking across the laptop!}

Yes, I allow my cats free reign!!

One time, i was sleeping late on the weekend. one of my cat had no patient waiting for his breakfast. Then He put his tiny paw and smacked on my face while i was sleeping! :eek2: thank god he knows how to control his claws so claws didn't leave me some marks on my face. :giggle:

My stepmom used to let my cats into the bedroom in the morning whenever they started to drive her nuts. Mozart usually laid down next to me and managed to find a nice spot on my bed to sleep but Bibi would come lick my face to wake me up and say "Good morning" :mad2: *stupid cat* ;)

There are a lot of cats who are "touchy-feely," but Molly is the first cat I've had that actually uses her paws a lot. All other cats we've had just used their paws for walking and occasionally pushing something off a shelf ("mwhahahahahaha!"). But Molly, right from the start, understood that she could get a reaction if she pawed at my eyelids when I was trying to sleep in. Nope, gotta feed little Molly, so *poke poke poke* goes her little paw on my eye. Then she'd begin to lose her temper and let a nail or two extract and prick my eye. Sometimes she'd be kind and stroke my cheek with her paw (with and without a claw sticking out). I didn't want to hurt her feelings, so it took a while for me to "learn" to duck under the covers when she showed up, because she couldn't get me there.

But Molly loves to "clench" her paws, especially when she feels good or is in the middle of stretching. She loves to be touched, have physical contact, and be communicated with. She's a cuddler, she'll literally cuddle in your arms when you pick her up. Other cats weren't/aren't like that; they love us, but they also love their space.

Molly can be irritating, though, when she's hungry. She's a smart girl, and she learned pretty quickly that when I'm on a chair and facing this glowing screen (aka the computer), if she stood in front of the glowing screen, my eyes had no choice but to notice her. But if I'm trying to type out a long post (like this one, lol) and she comes up and steps right in front of the screen, using her 11lb bulk to her advantage, sometimes even turning her head towards the screen as if she wants me to know that she knows what she's doing, then it gets annoying and I have to physically remove her without even a "sorry." Then I feel bad (I'm the only one she likes; she runs from everyone else) and the next time she hops up, I turn my attention to her and lavish her with pettings. She sheds something HORRIBLE, though, and once she leaves, the computer is coated in black and white hairs (along with my hands being coated and stray hairs ending up on my face, in my nose, and in my mouth)

But one thing that I've noticed, since Molly arrived 3 1/2 years ago, is that Willow (8 years old) and Buffy (6 years old) have now begun using their paws too. Willow's sensitive about her little toesies so I notice it the least from her, but she didn't use to use her paws to sneak food from plates (she'd just sit there, quietly, and then snap out a paw when the food was on it's way to a human mouth). Now she'll actually use her paw to sneak food, a tactic she must have learned when Molly would place her paw in Willow's food bowl and slip out a bit of meat, or (even better), she'd place her paw in the bowl and drag the bowl closer to herself and just help herself. Buffy, on the other hand, HATES Molly with a passion, so I'm not sure when she ever saw Molly using her paws. But recently, I can't help but notice that Buffy has taken to pawing at our faces for attention. It's startling, because she never did it before and she's a harsher kind of cat. A meow or squawk gets our attention, or simply jumping on our laps. Gentle strokes aren't really her sort of thing.

Yes, I'm their cat butler....

Going out.... coming in..... going out..... coming in.....
