There are a lot of cats who are "touchy-feely," but Molly is the first cat I've had that actually uses her paws a lot. All other cats we've had just used their paws for walking and occasionally pushing something off a shelf ("mwhahahahahaha!"). But Molly, right from the start, understood that she could get a reaction if she pawed at my eyelids when I was trying to sleep in. Nope, gotta feed little Molly, so *poke poke poke* goes her little paw on my eye. Then she'd begin to lose her temper and let a nail or two extract and prick my eye. Sometimes she'd be kind and stroke my cheek with her paw (with and without a claw sticking out). I didn't want to hurt her feelings, so it took a while for me to "learn" to duck under the covers when she showed up, because she couldn't get me there.
But Molly loves to "clench" her paws, especially when she feels good or is in the middle of stretching. She loves to be touched, have physical contact, and be communicated with. She's a cuddler, she'll literally cuddle in your arms when you pick her up. Other cats weren't/aren't like that; they love us, but they also love their space.
Molly can be irritating, though, when she's hungry. She's a smart girl, and she learned pretty quickly that when I'm on a chair and facing this glowing screen (aka the computer), if she stood in front of the glowing screen, my eyes had no choice but to notice her. But if I'm trying to type out a long post (like this one, lol) and she comes up and steps right in front of the screen, using her 11lb bulk to her advantage, sometimes even turning her head towards the screen as if she wants me to know that she knows what she's doing, then it gets annoying and I have to physically remove her without even a "sorry." Then I feel bad (I'm the only one she likes; she runs from everyone else) and the next time she hops up, I turn my attention to her and lavish her with pettings. She sheds something HORRIBLE, though, and once she leaves, the computer is coated in black and white hairs (along with my hands being coated and stray hairs ending up on my face, in my nose, and in my mouth)
But one thing that I've noticed, since Molly arrived 3 1/2 years ago, is that Willow (8 years old) and Buffy (6 years old) have now begun using their paws too. Willow's sensitive about her little toesies so I notice it the least from her, but she didn't use to use her paws to sneak food from plates (she'd just sit there, quietly, and then snap out a paw when the food was on it's way to a human mouth). Now she'll actually use her paw to sneak food, a tactic she must have learned when Molly would place her paw in Willow's food bowl and slip out a bit of meat, or (even better), she'd place her paw in the bowl and drag the bowl closer to herself and just help herself. Buffy, on the other hand, HATES Molly with a passion, so I'm not sure when she ever saw Molly using her paws. But recently, I can't help but notice that Buffy has taken to pawing at our faces for attention. It's startling, because she never did it before and she's a harsher kind of cat. A meow or squawk gets our attention, or simply jumping on our laps. Gentle strokes aren't really her sort of thing.
