I saw a thread near the bottom regarding protecting one's own credit card, what about your social security number. Do you know that when you apply for a job (including resumes!) that you DO NOT put your social security number on the application? Only two forms receive it: The W-4 (or is it the W-2?) and the I-9. No other documents. This also includes renting video tapes/movies from your local video store. This is to protect yourself and your credit, since there are crooks out there that want to steal your number.
In addition, when was the last time you've requested your own credit report and seen it? If it's been over six months, better request it. The reason I brought this up is because my brother requested his and noted that there is a different ssn on his record. He showed it to me and I asked him what was up with the number, as I know his is very close to my own. I told him, since I have the collections background, that he needs to get on top of this and find out who those companies are that have made inquiries about him, as they are reported.
If anyone needs help or doesn't understand, pm me.
