Do you have clean snow off your car roof to avoid

paying a fine? I heard on the news today cops are warning people to clean off the snow of their car roofs or they could end up paying a fine.

I once saw a person driving with a few " of snow on their car roof and the snow slid down over the windshield and the driver was not able to see the road for a few seconds, I got out of that driver way in a hurry.

it's the law in NJ to clear ice and snow off your roof especially for truckers

If the trucks are tall it must be hard getting the snow off the roof. I wonder how well this law is enforce , or it just another law people get away with breaking.

There are various ways, semis go to truck washes and the hot water melts it off, it also gives them a receipt as proof they did clear it, because on a long haul, state to state going through blizzards and all, they cannot keep it clear, especially when resting and snow accumilates as well as accumilation while driving. But they do try to hit a wash station as needed, some stops have ladders and equipment to use as well, but they are far in between.

If a Trooper sees a ton of snow/ice they know it hasnt been done, anyone can tell if its been cleared over the course.... just as we see regular cars that accumilate more after a clearing.

use a ladder.

I keep a regular broom in the backseat of my car. if there's a lot of snow, I just use the broom to make the cleaning job go quicker haha.

yeah im not pleased when they dont clear up their roof of cars then i must move to the other lanes to get away from that stupid car with snow on top of roof. soemtimes i spotted the ice fell off from the roof or snow then hit other cars.. jeez

My mom got in an accident once and hit a street light pole for that reason. She didn't clean the snow off the roof and she stopped quickly and all the snow from her roof collapsed onto the windshield and she couldn't see so she hit a light pole. Even now, I still cringe when people don't clear the roof of their car. It's much safer to clean the snow off your entire car, it's not that hard.... just a couple brushes off the handle, come on people.

There are no laws about clearing off roof either. That is good. You know that roof of some vans can be taller than the individual themselves.

How do you clear off roof of a Dodge Sprinter???

Maybe not IL law, but possibly localized laws require it? I don't know about Chicago requirements, but because we have large semi trucks driving on Western Ave, which is basically the only street where they're allowed with large loads, I'm pretty sure it's required for certain things, like semi-trucks and things that haul freight. Don't know about locomotives, but I'm pretty sure the heat from the smoke would take care of that.
