I noticed when I clean my (C) and (D) drive on disk defragmenter...

The (C) Drive (Presario) works successfully...but..when I deframented (D) it wont successfully...Why is that? How do I find this solution?

Try Error-checking scan.

It does it to me everytime I use my deframented... Eachtime I use it there is a viruse on the computer, so maybe you want to run a ad-aware on your computer. :dunno:

Does the disk defragment also erases old deleted files in the hard disk drive permanently? (I understand that it helps the hard disk speed up nicely after the defragment.)

I read that there are different level of formats. Some levels takes from several hours to four days. Do u know anything about that?

I did that recently for D: only,,,then I click on defragment to clean it afterward...still, it says some of files can not defragement...

Defragmentation is complete for: PRESARIO_RP (D:)

Some files on this volume could not be defragmented.
Please check the defragmentation report for the list of these files.

Please correct me if I'm wrong about erasing the old deleted files if I defragment the hard disk. I want to feel safe so that no one able to undelete my deleted personal files in the trash!

I am not sure why need defragmented on D:? I think that D is empty!!! That is for when u use for CD rom go in D: drive! U see C: drive is inside of ur computer which is called hardward and D: drive is for software only!!

Ahh, mine are D: drive is for DVD rom and E: drive is for CD-RW and both of them are for software only!! So this C: drive is for hardware which is inside of ur computer only!! That all so u just simple defragment on C peroid no other else!! OK? Got it? I hope u do understand that! Unless if u want have ur either DVD drive (D:) rom in that drive then u can do that otherwise it is empty which cannot be use for defragment!

It can make it harder to recovered deleted files because defragmenting moves pieces of files around to make them contineous, so it's possible for deleted files to be overwritten. But don't depend on it because it is not the goal of defragmenting, so not all deleted files may be overwritten.

Here is a page about data remanence and how traces can be purged. There are purging programs for that purpose.

Standard patterns for purging

* DoD 5220.22-M prescribes overwriting data in 3 passes: with a character, then its complement, and finally with a random character; e.g., overwrite first with 0000 0000, followed by 1111 1111, then 1001 0111.
* NAVSO P5239-26 standards are more rigorous versions of the same procedure.
* Another DoD standard allegedly prescribes overwriting data in 7 passes.
* Gutmann suggests overwriting data in 35 passes.

If you want to know about computer, I suggest you to read the book. Just go to library or bookstore. That would save your time to understand how the computer works.

Just open your computer and take a look inside. If your computer has one harddrive, you do not need to run disk defragmenter on Drive D....

Before you ask any computer question, research computer information via the Internet. There are lots of answers. If you are stuck with it, just ask ADer...

Maybe, Neo had a free time on his right hand. He was too busy thinking about it.

Anyways, I thought that you use your CD software E: to defragment on C: as a primary hard disk if you have only one. Your CD comes with Micro$oft OS in the package. But, I want u know that I am Apple user. I had an IBM PC in the past.

what your O.S.? (win95? win98? ME?, 2000? or XP?)

Alright, some of us want to know what kind of computer do u have....like this do u use Windows XP or Windows 98 or Windows 95? So that some of us know but for now I just want to tell u that D drive is emply ok? That is if not have two hard drives (hardware) But I have felt u must have only one hard drive and D: is for software ok? So do not worry abt that D: drive anyway!! I hope! :)

Ahhh never mind, u have Windows XP anyway....
