Discussing deaf history month - WCAX.COM Local Vermont News, Weather and Sports-
This is Deaf History Month, celebrated each year from March 13-April 15. The University of Vermont's American Sign Language Program Coordinator Keri Ogrizovich joined The :30 to talk about it. She explained some of the culture and history of the deaf for us with the help of interpreter Cory Brunner.
Ogrizovich explained the importance of marking the occasion, "We do have American History Month and there are some key events that happened during American History Month and there are some similar events that parallel these events within the deaf community. Things that impact our lives today.
"The deaf president now protests, for example. Deaf people now have an equal opportunity to have good paying jobs," which she explained is because of that movement that happened in the 1980s.
