Jennifer Hudson is on the Today show this morning (08/19/14) and is using purple molds with glitter while on stage. I notice most music acts do have earmolds in. How much is a matter of helping then understand their accompaniment over the crowd noise and how much is to protect their ears from too much sound I don't know.
 
I've noticed that sometimes with tv news people <unless that's something different> and with the entertainers, and wondered also-
 
Yeah i have seen like taht.. I guess something relates with the echo sounds. Last week, we went to the U.S. capitol. the guide tour had to wear the earmold and they told me that they cant hear the sounds where the echos are everywhere in the us capitol. :dunno:
 
With musicians, it's probably two-fold. They'll use in-ear monitors to help them stay with the rhythm of the music and not be distracted by outside noise, but also to protect from hearing damage as the speakers and amps are near them. In the past when it wasn't so much an option or popular, many musicians are suffering from tinnitus today because of all that loud noise exposure. Going through tinnitus myself, I wouldn't wish it on anyone, really.
 
Many have also suffered gradual hearing loss on top of the tinnitus- Roger Daltry of the Who is one of them and I believe he is one of the biggest proponents of ear protection on stage for concerts.

I'm noticing too more that people who 'wear' their cell phone or bluetooth or whatever are starting to branch into more colors than black or silver...

that's cool! and sounds alot like my old earmold which is now cracked lol
