This posting is for everyone with Sorenson videophones.

Can you think or dream of any new features you would to add or see on VP100? Like getting rid of the limit on 40 speed dial entries.

We have vp answering machines as aftermarket product.

Let's brainstorm here. :thumb:

Try not to limit to just Sorenson. Should be include on any brand vp

color schemes for us to choose than one boring color. need like graphics etc. kinda like stickers or anything. smilies. etc.

How about a feature that enables a person to sign into the vp who he/she wants to call.

For example, I wake up in the morning, and I turn my vp on and sign to it that I want to call qwerty123 and the device calls him/her.

That'd be the functional equivalent of a cell phone taking in voice commands.

You are right.

With all the research funding going against deafness and educational activities against deaf culture, ASL will be gone before I'm gone.

Excuse my language, but wtf? ASL will be preserved by users, remember the dark age (1880-1960)? School banned ASL and the (hearing) community show lot of disapproval when people use ASL. And they survived because of our deaf community. They keep it alive by go underground. They will go underground to preserve if necessary, but I doubt it will happen. Why do I get a feeling you are very negative toward lot of issues? I cannot recall any posting that you are positive or show some appreication in today's technology.

I second that, very sadly, most deafies don't realize the real root of ASL! Funny, even though most don't know the true language of ASL, they still use it naturally anyway! Will it die? Nope, only human will die, but the Legend lives on!

I know this may be off topic but you see when someone pushes someone elses buttons, this is the reaction theyre going to be expecting.

It's not about negativity, its about the realistics that are on the horizon. I'm tired of seeing many deaf people thinking that ASL is forever.

What I'm seeing here is ASL being phased out by the CI generation. Come over to Orange County (OC) and you'll see the number of deaf students at all three ASL stronghold schools namely Deerfield, Venado, and University pales in comparision to what it was 5 yrs ago. Take a look at the Oberkotter Foundation which has been very agresive in helping many OC schools in starting their own HOH programs so students wont have to be bused to any of the 3 ASL strongholds. These HOH programs are completely devoid of the use of ASL and deaf culture is almost absent. I been there I gave presentations there!

Other than our own ASL classes there's hardly anything else going on in the county to farm the use of ASL as a communication method.

And besides deaf society is evolving and advancing into new frontiers which is more readily interfaceable to the hearing society.

And technology is playing a positive role in making the evolution possible.

I know this may be off-topic, but you need to buy a new dictionary! Or, better yet, go back to school and get a real degree.

Come to think of it.. What degree do you have that enables you to run such advocacy center in Orange County?

You dont need a degree to run OCDAC. The only qualification is to be very knowledgeable and active in community affairs.

Oh, okay...

I don't trust organizations run by non-degreed people..

Oh, gosh, come on, all of you, give the trolling a rest.

1) Being able to sign to a VP with the idea of "voice activation" is a desired feature by MANY people. It will be something that will be included as soon as computers are able to get visual recognicion programming. It's not that hard, it's just that the current resolution of the cameras aren't fine enough yet to distinguish hand shapes in various backgrounds. It'll happen in 5, maybe 10 years. Mark my words.

2) Back on topic:

Desirable VP features:

a) Electronic zoom feature -- after setting the focus, one should be able to zoom in and out electronically using the VP software, not a physical motor that zooms the lens for you.

b) The lens should be set so that 2 or 3 people can be clearly seen within the viewfinder; then the above software feature should be used to zoom in on individuals as requested. This is possible in digital cameras without using motorized lens, and the quality is still very good.

c) Multiple user connection capability. I'm sick and tired of 1 on 1 conversations, I'm interested in being able to do 3 way calling in ASL to other signers. Hearing people can do it, so should I! I understand bandwidth limitations are there, but for those of us with in professional settings, conference calls with 3 people in different locations is a lifesaver!

d) "Sign Recognicion" technology. Hell, yes, I want to be able to sign the person I want to call and have the VP dial the right number. No, I don't want that to happen during a call, it'll only happen when I press the "recognize signs" button before I make a call. Hearing people have to do the same thing, "push to talk" or other kind of way to connect.

Our clients do. Because we're at the same level as they are. We communicate at the same level as they do we're in the same social class as they are. Ever heard of Of, By, and for the Deaf? Unlike the state funded agencies in my state that claim to be Of, By, and for the Deaf, we dont even claim to be Of, By, and for the Deaf, instead, we actually live up to being Of, By, and for the Deaf!

There's even a sign for this. A pair of C's signing communication at the same level than at different levels. Even the bigshot degree holders fail realize that a equal level of communication with clients work best. I seen plenty of that at GLAD and thats why were not gonna be like them!
