From the author: This is an essay I've been working on for the past several weeks, updated moments ago with what appears to be Bush's final number of victory states (31) once the nonsense of provisional votes in Ohio is overcome.
As an admitted "modest proposal" (a la Swift's satiric story of the same name), it is nevertheless serious in pointing out the cancer that continues to threaten our body politic.]
Branded unconstitutional by President Abraham Lincoln, the South's secession from the American Union ultimately sparked "The Civil War" (a name that was rejected by Southerners, who correctly called it "The War Between the States," for the South never sought to 1] seize the central government or 2] rule the other side, two requisites for a civil war).
No state may leave the Union without the other states' approval, according to Lincoln's doctrine--an assertion that ignores the Declaration of Independence, which was the vital basis for all 13 American colonies' unilateral secession from the British Union eight decades earlier. Lincoln's grotesque legal argument also disregards a state's inherent right of secession which many scholars believe is found in the Ninth and Tenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Hehe. I love these rightwings and their delusionals. Whenever I need to cheer myself up, I tend to read their articles to get few chuckles. This year, rumors start to fly around that both 'blue' states & 'red' states want to secede or separate. We, blue states or democrats have no problem with that. Several reasons:
1) Large percent of armies & recruits of USA are from blue states. You know the popular term, 'chickenhawks'? It usually apply to republicans who chickened out from armies or look for the excuse to not get involved in war.
More information on chickenhawks: Who served and Chickenhawks
Check the republican & democrat list, you will understand. We, democrats & blue states are fighting for red states and their life in Iraq war.. now they want to secede... sure, why not? We will see if they will fight for their life in wars. As Kos said: 'What is it with conservatives and their neverending rage? They control everything, yet they remain angry, angry, angry. Was it Jon Stewart who called it the "anger of the enfranchised"?'
one question remains mystery to us for years and years... Republicans tend to start the wars (if doubt, look at president history), why are they try so hard to avoid to fight in any wars that they started?
2) Allow me to quote Kos: I find it funny that anyone thinks this nation would survive as a superpower without California, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. The money to finance their wars? North Dakota? Nevermind the subsidies Blue States pay to Red States.
So true. We paid lot for these red states. California, NJ, New York and Illinois are superpower states. Heck approx one-third or one-fourth of economy in USA provided by California alone. If without USA, California will be the third most richest nation in this world. If red states actually secede, who will pay the heavy taxes that Californians have been paying for red states for many years? Texans? Floridians? Will they howl about it when they find out? We will see. Mike Thompson also forget that DC is blue 'state'. Does it mean that DC will secede along with us? He seem neglect to mention that Oregon, Washington and Minnesota are blue states too. I wonder if they actually secede, I guess we will have to take White House with us?
3) It appears that Mike forget that Abraham Lincoln was a republican and he fought for blacks to give them the freedom from slavery. How many do you think blacks & colored people in red states will feel when red states want to secede and more likely will reinstate the slavery in their lands? Ouch. That's what. I am not kidding or exaggerating about it, in some areas of south states, southerns have been wanting to reinstate the slavery. They was very furious about it when North won and gave the freedom back to the black people. If you don't believe me, go to redder area in red states and ask random people in there. Remember that truth tend to be more stranger than fiction. My dad is unfortunately an republican & red-necked and he think that slavery should be reinstate as well
Again, allow me to quote Kos: I also find it telling that one of the author's virtues of this new not-so-United States of America is that it would be "whiter" and "Christian". Another clue as to what the Right means when they talk about "values" (brown and black people need not apply).
Naturally, blacks or any colored people are more than welcome to stay in blue states if secession comes up for real.
4) 80% of the world are rallying or voicing against Bush. So if we need the allies to protect us from red states, (keyword: IF) we have plenty.
5) Environment. Blue states tend to be environment-conscious or environment-preservation society. It means that our generations will be able to grow up healthy and normal compare to red states. Think I am kidding? Check the obesity results in Texas and red states, you will be wince when you read the results. Texas is number one for air pollution and environment pollution issues.
All in all, Bush will not allow that because he needs Californians to finance their so-called 'holy wars'. We know that he know that we know. If he surprisedly allow the secession then I guess I will party hard with blue states for freedom and liberty at last. Where people will never feel oppressed or no one will impose their beliefs on each other. Where women will have their rights restored. That is indeed glory country. Think about it
Kos mentioned the important part: In any case, considering that this nutjob's list contains 8 of the original 13 colonies, we're keeping the name "United States of America".
Indeed. Once again, I quoted Kos: Ahhh, you've got to love the America hatin' wingers. Ok, I am done with making fun of that article and Mike Thompson.
