Deaf students in the swim - Doncaster Today

Six deaf students from Doncaster are celebrating after passing exams to become fully qualified lifeguards.
Claire Kamis, Jemma Townend, Zoe Clayton, Rachel Haywood, Harry Perry-Lewis and Chris Taylor, who attend Doncaster College for the Deaf, have gained their National Royal Standard qualifications and are now able to work at swimming pools and leisure centres throughout the UK.

The students underwent hours of intensive theory and specialised training at the deaf college and The Dome before taking practical exams in the Dome's Lagoons.

Jon Smith, sports programme leader at the college, said: "These qualifications are the result of some really hard work and dedication from the students and staff. They should all feel extremely proud of themselves.

"They are a group of very talented swimmers and will be a welcome addition to any lifeguard team."
