Deaf students give thanks and praises - Fiji Times Online
TO give praise and thanks to the Lord is the main reason the Gospel School for the Deaf is mark its 10th anniversary this year.
The celebrations were held at the school yesterday.
School director Jim Cooney said it was also a great opportunity for awareness of the school's objectives.
"It's a time to thank God, the pioneers of the school and recognise the talents of the deaf students," Mr Cooney said.
"We would like to thank our sponsors for their support over the years."
Mr Cooney said the school has never turned a deaf student because of financial constraints.
"I would like to encourage parents to bring in their children because they deserve to have a proper education and given a chance can function and work like any other normal citizen."
There are 53 students at the deaf school with more than 70 students who've graduated since its establishment in 1999.
The Gospel School for the Deaf was founded on January 23, 1999, and opened for at the Samabula Gospel Chapel with 13 students.
The school is now on the Gospel School Campus in Samabula.
The school is an outgrowth of the Fiji Deaf Ministry started by Mrs Vivienne Harland, a deaf woman originally from England.
Mrs Harland lived in Fiji for more than 45 years.
