Students at the Oregon School for the Deaf in northeast Salem recently presented Marion-Polk Food Share with 47 gallons of biodiesel that they produced in vocational class.
Vocational instructor Greg Perinne began the biodiesel project four years ago to provide job skills and allow students to perform community service.
High school students used recycled restaurant cooking oil to create the biodiesel. The students presented the food share with the biodiesel on June 8.
The food share will use the donated biodiesel to supplement biodiesel produced at its warehouse facility to help fuel the fleet's delivery trucks.
