Deaf student Lisa wins award for childcare studies - The Star

DEAF student Lisa Aithwaite is celebrating after receiving an award for her childcare studies.
Lisa, of Stainforth, was presented with a National Institute for Adults Continuing Education Yorkshire and Humber award at a ceremony in Leeds in May.

Lisa, whose first language is British Sign Language, was nominated for the award for achieving her NVQ level 2 and progressing on NVQ level 3 in children's care, learning and development.

Her tutor Jackie Maskey said: "With Lisa having BSL as a first language, she has found it difficult reading the course materials.

"But with help from her mentor at the deaf centre and myself, Lisa was able to complete the course in time.

"She is a great student and deserves the recognition for her hard work."
