Deaf Soldier Receives Service Dog

Sergeant Paul Conner was on his fourth tour of duty in Iraq when he lost his hearing as a result of an IED explosion. On Friday Texas Hearing and Service Dogs presented Conner with Zest. The service dog will alert him when the phone or doorbell rings, if a fire alarm goes off, or if somebody is standing behind him.

Four other people received service dogs at a presentation in Dripping Springs.

"I'm really blessed," Conner said. "Without the dog, I would have to live without hearing."

It costs about $18,000 to train each dog. All of the dogs were rescued from shelters.

Any project that rescues shelter dogs is good, in my opinion.

That is wonderful!

Glad to see they are rescuing these animals to do the community and the dog some good.
