Deaf society hits out at cutbacks - Community - Northampton Chronicle & Echo

THE NATIONAL Deaf Children’s Society Listening Bus pulled into Delapre Abbey to raise awareness of how Government cutbacks could affect the welfare of the youngsters they help.

Members of the society were met at the abbey in London Road, Delapre, Northampton, by volunteers and children from charity, Talking With Hands.

Co-ordinator at the Northampton charity, Roseann O’Malley, said: “It is important to raise awareness about how government cuts could affect the society if they are put in place. The society helps deaf children to learn how to read and write and less funding will make this harder to achieve. Without these skills it will be harder for deaf children to get jobs in the future and could affect their mental health.”

Trying to make deaf children hearing affects their mental health just as surely.
