Deaf Service Center Announces Election of Lisa Bankert to its Board of Directors
The Deaf Service Center of Palm Beach County, Inc. announced the election of Lisa Bankert to its board of directors.
Ms. Bankert is Director of Public Relations and Marketing for the Lake Worth Playhouse, a 56-year-old non-profit community theatre in downtown Lake Worth, Florida, where she has worked on staff for the past 10 months and in a volunteer capacity for the previous three years. Her career experience includes positions in corporate communications and marketing, performing arts, literary arts, and the motion picture industry. She began her career in professional theatre in the Washington DC area before moving to New York City and then Hollywood to work as a casting director and script consultant for independent and studio films, including Paramount Pictures, Miramax Films, Universal Pictures and Neo Art & Logic. Ms. Bankert has extensive corporate communications and marketing experience with Fortune 500 companies, including Host Marriott Corporation in Bethesda, Maryland and America Online, Inc. in Dulles, Virginia.
She is the founder/president and senior editor of Pinestein Press, a small-press publishing company that produces literary and learning materials for preschool and school-age children; and she writes and edits learning materials for educational publishers throughout the U.S. Ms. Bankert is a longstanding member of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators and a former volunteer with Palm Beach County's Adult Literacy Project.
Ms. Bankert studied radio/television/film (RTVF) for two years at the University of Maryland, before earning a bachelor's degree in arts sciences from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
The election of Ms. Bankert to the Deaf Service Center's board brings the total number of directors to nine. The board is chaired by Ms. Laura Newstead, Vice President of Branch Operations at Employers, an insurance group, and vice chaired by Mr. Peter Elwell, Town Manager of Palm Beach.
