Kris Martin’s drive to race in NASCAR has never been stronger. Now, with his recent teaming with Annamarie Strawhand’s Motorsports Consultant Services (MCS), Martin’s road to the highest levels of American auto racing appears a bit clearer with a renewed sense of optimism and confidence.

Martin, a Canadian stock-car driver out of Burlington, Ontario, recently signed on with MCS, which is headquartered out of Virginia to boost his driving and marketing programs. The 24-year-old racer has his sights set on a move to the Southeast to race at a NASCAR-sanctioned late model track with hopes in proving himself and soon advancing to ARCA or the NASCAR K&N East Series.

But Martin needs the sponsorship dollars for the opportunity, and he’s confident he’ll get the support and help he needs with MCS.

“I met Annamarie about couple months ago and we’ve been working together ever since. Annamarie can help me to get involved with a good team and assist me in bringing sponsorship on board. Without sponsorship support I cannot race,” Martin said.

Martin isn’t just any talented young driver looking to prove himself. The Delaware (Ontario) Speedway late model veteran was born deaf. He’s now able to hear, albeit imperfectly, with the use of a Cochlear implant. The implant allows him to hear and communicate on the radio, which is obviously needed while racing in divisions that require radio communication.

While Martin’s ultimate goal is to race in the highest levels of NASCAR, the aspiration includes a motive to raise awareness about the possibility of racing as a deaf driver.

“My drive to move up in the sport is all about passion,” Martin says. “I know I can be successful given the opportunity. I want to help inspire other deaf kids that if you have a passion for something, anything is possible.”

Martin’s already done plenty of inspiring. He’s traveled across North America to share his story with thousands of students and adults. Groups listening to Martin’s motivational speaking have numbered in the several hundreds on a number of occasions.

But Martin is hoping his speaking engagements will soon need to be scheduled around race days. The work to obtain sponsorship for NASCAR late model racing is already in full swing; plans to move Martin south are already in motion.

“Kris is unique because he is a deaf driver, but if you look past that, he’s an outstanding racer,” Strawhand said while speaking of the latest addition to the MCS family. “Kris has run so well in the few opportunities he’s been given, and we’re working hard to make sure he’s able to get into the best scenario possible to advance his career. I’m so excited about this young man. He’s extremely marketable with a strong passion and determination for what he believes in. I am proud to represent him.”
