A DEAF pensioner from Stanmore will be raising money for a hearing dogs charity by running a 5k run in Hyde Park.

Millicent Williams, 67, will be taking part in the Adidas Women’s 5k Challenge on Sunday, September 11.

The race is designed for runners of all abilities and participants who can choose to either walk, jog or run the distance.

Mrs Williams is raising money for charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, which trains dogs to alert deaf people to household sounds and signals such as the doorbell, telephone and smoke alarm – providing life-changing independence and confidence.

Her dog, Max, is a six-year-old Papillion and was trained by the charity to alert her to specific sounds, whether in the home or outside.

Mrs Williams said: “This is the fourth Adidas Women’s Challenge I will be taking part in. I also like to raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People as it is such a good charity.

“My hearing dog Max has made such a big difference to my life I like to do something in return so that more dogs can be trained to support deaf people like me”.

Ladies joining the Hearing Dogs’ team will be invited to a pre-race reception being held at Hearing Dogs’ headquarters in Saunderton, Buckinghamshire, on August 20, where there will be a chance to learn more about the charity and see a hearing dog demonstration with a tour of kennels and a chance to meet the dogs in training.

To join Mrs Williams in running, jogging or walking the 5k to raise funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People e-mail Hannah Holmes at events@hearingdogs.org.uk.
