Deaf-mute man hospitalized with bullet in head - Pasadena Star-News

A man who cannot hear or speak arrived at a local hospital Monday with a gunshot wound to his head, however it was not immediately clear how he was shot, authorities said.

The wounded man, described as a Latino man of about 25 years old, showed up at the hospital about 12:30 p.m., Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. John Gannon said.

He had been shot in the head with a small-caliber bullet, which was still lodged in his head, Gannon said.

The incident was believed to have occurred in the area of Santa Gertrudes Avenue at Imperial Highway in an unincorporated county area near Whittier, he said.

The investigation was slowed significantly because officials had difficulty communicating with the wounded man, Gannon said.

It was not clear late Monday if the man was the victim of an attack or had inflicted the wound himself.
