I think it said Deaf and mute. Not dumb.

I don't understand how anybody could mistake sign language for gang signs, especially when you see deaf people carrying on a conversation back and forth in sign. Gang signs are just single signs flashed in a threatening manner. This really doesn't make any sense. I sure hope the Deaf guys didn't provoke the woman and are now playing the deaf card...
 
Some of the comments on that webpage said Mute was not a good word to use. What word is appropriate for someone who cannot speak (physically cannot). I met someone recently who could not speak (damage to his vocal cords I believe). The way I read the article was that only one of the deaf persons was mute.

maybe it mean toward certain people who thought mute as dumb as insult. Way to twist the brain on how we think.

I think about the same thing but it's just reporter make specs to know that deaf don't have ability to make the speech behind the growl.

Gangs become dumb and dumber every days. These people are idoit for think ASL is like a gang signs. It similar happened on Friday at mall, I caught some black teenegers watched us signs and I noticed their angry face. They think we mocking gang signs.
