Deaf man stuck in foyer - Northern Territory News
A DEAF and dumb man had to wait helplessly in the foyer of a government building for hours because staffing cutbacks meant there was no receptionist to let him in, the Opposition said.
Opposition employment spokesman David Tollner told Estimates yesterday NT WorkSafe recently replaced the receptionist with a switchboard in the foyer that allows visitors entry.
Mr Tollner said there was a deaf and dumb man stuck in the foyer because he had "no ability to push the button and ask for who he wanted".
Justice Minister Delia Lawrie said she thought it was "important all organisations have in place policies and procedures to deal with disabilities, and I will look into your allegations."
