Deaf Like Me by Thomas and James Spradley

I just checked-out this book from the library. Why? Because it is one of the required books for my first (credit) ASL class coming up this August. Has anyone here read it. If so, tell me what you thought of it. Thanks!

We discussed this book a while back in a thread started by jclarke. Should be a madatory read for all hearing parents of deaf children.

It's a very good book - easy to read. I have about 7 or 8 copies. I wish this book could turn into a movie.

Timing is everything -- you starting this thread when -- read on ... My parents have had this book since it was first published, and they also met James Spradley. The Spradleys lived in Minnesota a while (which is where I live.) My parents have been going through all my childhood things and turning them over to me, and I just got this book from them yesterday morning. I knew they'd met James Spradley, but I didn't know he autographed the book until I opened it yesterday.

Another good one is Train Go Sorry, about the Deaf School in Manhatten. It's more lit. journalism.....quite good!

Yes I have read this book and it a very good book. I have a book too, sitting on the shelf with all the deaf related books. At first, I didn't like it cos of oralism teaching. Then toward the end, it got better when the parents reliaze that their daughter need to have ASL to communicate and they learnt ASL.
