Hundreds of kids out at the National Sportscenter in Blaine are sharing common bonds; their love of sports and the fact that they're all deaf or hearing impaired.

"When you get them together, the kids have a chance to see they aren't the only ones with the hearing loss. When you get into some of the rural areas and they don't get the chance to see many kids like themselves, and this is just a great way to make more awareness, and at the same time, have a little fun," said Doobie Kurus, event coordinator.

So much to get into and do, everything from the long jump, to frisbee toss to softball. Interpreters were helping out, players and representatives from the Minnesota Thunder Soccer Team were also on hand, lending their hands, their feet and their heads. "Teaching them how to dribble, how to juggle, how to shoot, and I think they're having a good time with it," claims Kevin Friedlander, a defenseman for the Thunder.

The crowd favorite event though, was tug o war.

All in all, the event was a huge hit with the kids. It has been nine years in the running, "It's all about getting energy and having fun and learning different kinds of sports," said Ian Langsev, a 2nd Grader.

"You can do exercise here and do anything you want," said Wendy Maciel, a 5th Grader.

But perhaps a youngster named Curtis sumed things up the best, "It was a good day out here today."
