Deaf girl of 10 learns to play the piano | The Sun |News

A GIRL aged ten who became deaf after getting meningitis as a baby has defied doctors by becoming a talented PIANIST.

Holly Loach suffered brain damage as a tot and her parents - both musicians - were told she would never "hear music in any form".

But after having electrical implants inserted into her ears in 2001 and 2008 and undergoing music therapy and training, the granddaughter of film director Ken Loach has become a grade 5 pianist.

Mum Hannah, 41, of Bristol, said: "The implant provides a version of sounds but it's up to Holly to interpret it."

She added that Holly's "special" talent - which was only spotted at a piano competition last year - was a "miracle".

A friend of mine does play piano and she is deaf. She loves it...not sure if she still doing it. :) I suck in it! LOL!

I am impressed with ANY deaf people can play such as flute, saxophone, piano, etc etc.

cool but chance is - she won't make a career out of it. :dunno:

I say she has a great potential. There are many avenues to use music as a career. I focus on the positive possibilities rather than negative ones. Don't let deafness be an excuse or a justification to suggest the improbable.
