Deaf woman saved by her hero dog | The Sun |HomePage|News
A DOG has been hailed a hero – after alerting a deaf woman and her kids to a drunken intruder.
Gill Houghton, 48, was asleep in a B&B room with Jake, 13, and Ellie, five, when Nellie jumped on her bed.
The labrador – a hearing dog trained to help Gill – then gave the “danger” signal by dropping to the floor.
Gill, a former royal protection officer, said: “I saw the door was open and a man was standing there, looking at us. He looked drunk and said, ‘You are in my house’.”
Brave Nellie placed herself in front of the kids until he stepped back and Gill slammed the door.
The mum, of Brighton, was staying in Stafford.
Four-year-old Nellie has been named Dog of the Month by charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
