Uganda People News: Deaf get 2MUSD center
The Uganda Association for the Deaf has thanked the United States Agency for International Development USAID for constructing them a fully funished resource center.
The 2 Million US dollar (about 3.8billion shillings) resource center is located in Mukono. Speaking at the launch of the center, the Chairperson of the Uganda Association for the Deaf, Alex Ndeezi said that the center is a major milestone in promoting education amongst the deaf and empowering them towards better lives.
Ndeezi who is also one of the MPs representing people with disabilities said that the center will offer lessons in sign language, income generating activities, and training in several information and communication technologies relevant to the deaf.
USAID country Director, Timothy Nzioka appealed to the deaf to utilize the center to empower themselves for better future.
He revealed that they are liaising with the ministry of education to introducing ICT (computer related) training that is friendly to the deaf in education institutions
