Deaf Fundraiser Seeks to Raise $2,500

As part of “Deaf Awareness Week,” hearing impaired Green Spin author John Pilmer solicits public support for a fundraiser to benefit the Utah Schools for the Deaf, a non-profit organization. Ninety percent of all proceeds go directly to the schools.

“I’ve been fighting hearing loss my whole life,” said author John Pilmer. “If we can help even one other person prevent or deal with hearing impairment, we want to do it.”

The fundraiser will run between Sept. 27 and Oct. 11, and seeks to raise $2,500 or more. Contributors may give any amount of $1 or higher at Green Spin Book by John Pilmer.

The Utah Schools of the Deaf has a rich history of providing hearing impairment solutions for children, including American Sign Language and speaking classes. The Utah Schools for the Deaf also provides Audiology specialists around the state to provide counseling and care for deaf children.

In the new thriller novel Green Spin, the main character (Jack) has a younger brother who is deaf. No big deal? Well, when Jack’s life is on the line in Green Spin, his sign language skills become a very big deal. Author John Pilmer, himself, is hearing impaired, and sees disabilities as abilities through the prospective of his lead character, Jack Knighton. Take the thrill ride that is Green Spin and find out just how Jack and others benefit from a lifetime of working with a hearing impaired family member.
