Deaf Football Teams Tackles the Odds
The Fighting Spartans- a regular team in every sense of the word, except for one thing, they are all deaf. The ball players are students at the Ohio School for the Deaf. The school is so tiny that they have had to adapt to playing 8 man football.
"We don't want anyone to treat us differently," said Max Cook, a student and player. Instead of yelling plays, the team signs the count, and taps the center to snap the ball.
Students love the school. "We fit together in school. We fit together in dorms. We fit together in sports. It's that living together, camaraderie, as a living community," a student said. Students say there is no hate, no jealousy, no problems there.
