hey everyone!

I am currently an ASL student (loving every minute of it!), and am taking a deaf culture course. For an assignment, we are supposed to interview a deaf person and write an essay in response to their answers. My teacher encouraged us to reach outside of the deaf community at school, so I am turning here to see if anyone would be willing to answer some questions. I'll paste them below this and if you have a bit of extra time on your hands and could help me out, that would be very appreciated.

Thanks so much!

1. how did you become deaf?
2. how was it discovered that you were deaf?
3. how did your family react?
4. does anyone in your family know sign? if yes, what kind of sign system is used? if no, how do you communicate with your family?
5. what is your educational background and what communication method was used?
6. what is your current communication method?
7. what is your role in deaf culture and how do you feel about it? Are you comfortable or conflicted? why?
8. what kind of frustrating experiences have you had?
9. how do you feel about cochlear implants?
10. what kind of changes would you want to see/make in the hearing world?

And in addition to the fact that these exact questions have been answered over and over here, did your teacher not intend you to go find a flesh and blood deaf person in your community?

Truly most of us are not dangerous.

well here's the thing...i know plenty of deaf people locally that would be willing to let me interview them (for a fair share of them, I could answer the questions on their behalf because I already know what their responses would be). I'm in a relatively small town, though considering that the deaf community is very strong. I was attempting to reach outside of what I know in pursuit of greater diversity.

However, I will admit that I originally didn't think about how many of these things you deal with....so sincerest apologies. my friends here will work just fine :)
