There were hugs and tears as Canterbury’s deaf community remembered Emma Agnew a year after her disappearance and murder.

Emma was regarded as a future leader of the deaf and her friends and family decided the best way to remember her was with a DVD. They decided to use Brooke Fraser’s song "faithful" and act it out in sign language.

The clip was filmed at Sumner beach. it was one of Emma’s favourite spots and she also loved sign-language music.

At the screening, those closest to her paid tribute including her cousin tiffany who shares the same birthday.

At the memorial service held for Emma where the DVD was unveiled tiffany said “for the rest of my life and always on my birthday it's going to be difficult and i just want to say to Emma that I love you.”

Emma’s flatmate Zina told the crowd “we had a really close bond; she was like my little sister.”

The deaf community made the DVD to show support for the Agnew family who have had a year of suffering.

Emma’s father Henry Agnew said “it's been very difficult for me to see that Emma’s smile has gone, it's very sad and I hope that everyone will remember Emma and her smile.”

Although Emma has gone her smile has been immortalised in the sign-language DVD that will go on YouTube.
