Deaf Children Get Unique Camp Opportunity - Kansas City News Story - KMBC Kansas City

Most families take summer sports camps for granted.

But that's not the case for about two dozen children scampering across the Blue Valley Recreational Complex in Overland Park.

The children playing baseball, soccer and lacrosse are hearing impaired or deaf. They are taking part in the 14th Annual Sertoma Club Fantasy Sports Camp.

"Sometimes hearing impaired children have a hard time getting involved in team sports. They're different and feel like they stick out, but at this camp everyone's the same," club president Marty Frahnke said Friday.
