Deaf cattle dogs made WMS carnival a smash | WindsorBeacon.com | The Windsor Beacon

Angelyne, the Amazing Deaf Cattle Dog, was just one of the big hits at the March 13 annual Windsor Middle School sixth grade carnival.

“There were many activities that kept the steady crowd entertained throughout the evening,” said carnival co-chair Kathy Sears.

Some of the most popular activities were the face-painting, ring toss, in which they gave away over 750 liters of pop, and balloon sales.

The crowd also loved the silent auction, the sports games such as basketball and golf and the giant inflatable games and slide. There was something for participants of all ages.

Sears said everything went smoothly at the event which drew more than a thousand people. Although the exact total raised isn’t known, early estimates suggest the carnival earned about $10,000 before expenses. The money will be used to help pay for the 6th grade Outdoor Education Trip in Estes Park and for special 6th grade field trips and workshops.

Sears believes the staff at the elementary schools was instrumental in helping generate the large turnout with their announcements, posters and enthusiasm.

“We didn’t expect this many people and ran out of pop, balloons and tickets before the night was over,” Sears said.

Windsor Middle School Principal Doug Englert agreed the event was a huge success and said he is proud of the community’s support of the kids.

“Even in these tough economic times our community, business people and parents always put our kids first,” Englert said. “This is the reason our school district has such a great statewide reputation.”

He said he enjoyed watching all the kids having such a great time.

The 6th grade class, their parents and teachers hosted the annual event. Teachers Kathy Sears and Paul Mathern chaired the committee along with parent co-chairs Stacey McPherson and Pauli Jardine.
