MCSO: Deaf, autistic teen goes missing from Buckeye

Authorities are asking for the public's help as they search for an autistic and hearing impaired teen who went missing from the West Valley early Wednesday.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Brian Lee said 17-year-old Kameron was last seen near 191st Avenue and McDowell Road in Buckeye around 7 a.m.

Kameron is described as a white male with blonde hair and glasses.

Anyone with information about Kameron's whereabouts is asked to contact the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

I was going to give a shout out for accurate reporting on this article. It DOES seem like a lot of times, when there is a news article about dhh special needs adults, they forget to mention that the indivduals have other special needs besides deafness. The reason why I bring that up is that reporting stories like this, using just dhh to describe someone more complex makes it sound like dhh adults are intellectucally disabled and helpless. (which in turn reinforces the stereotype that the general public has of adults with all kinds of disabilties, that we're "helpless and can't function")
They did misuse the term hearing impaired. They need to REMOVE that from the offical stylebook.

:gpost: :gpost: I agree with you and hearing impaired is a NO NO. :nono:

I do hope the person will be found soon enough if he is lost or just not know where to go.
