Linda Bove, the deaf actress who played the part of Linda the Librarian on Sesame Street, will make an appearance at the Sesame Street exhibit at Strong National Museum of Play, 1 Manhattan Square, on Tuesday.

Bove will be at Strong Museum from 3 to 4 p.m. Admission to the museum will be free from 3 to 5 p.m.

Bove appeared on Sesame Street from 1971 to 2003. She introduced thousands of children to sign language and issues surrounding the deaf community,

The actress is in Rochester to play the role of narrator in two television public service announcements featuring deaf actors and dialogue in American Sign Language. The PSAs are intended to alert Rochester's deaf community about depression and the importance of early help-seeking (there will be no audio track).

Research suggests that depression is at least as common in the deaf population as it is among hearing people, but lack of information and limited resources for treatment by ASL-fluent providers heightens the risk for depression and suicide in the deaf population.

In addition to her role on Sesame Street, Bove has also appeared on Happy Days, the soap opera Search for Tomorrow, and in the national touring production of Children of a Lesser God. In 1963, Bove became a founding member of the National Theatre of the Deaf, and in 1991, she and her husband founded DeafWest, a resident sign-language theater that provides stage productions and creative opportunities to the deaf community in Los Angeles. In 2005, Bove joined the company's touring production of Big River.
